Monitoring Canada's Polar Bear Populations with Kristen Hayward, Queen's University

Monday, February 22nd at 7pm

How can we work to manage and conserve a species in the face of imperfect information and a rapidly changing environment? BEARWATCH is a program headed by QUBS’ own Dr. Stephen C. Lougheed working to develop new polar bear monitoring tools and assess the health of Canada’s polar bear populations. Importantly, these efforts are in response to a long-expressed desire by Indigenous communities for non-invasive monitoring, and will contribute to a community-based monitoring program that will provide input for polar bear management strategies and economic and social benefits for Northern communities.
